Looking Ass Nigga – Nicki Minaj

Though Nicki is catching a lot of slack for her album cover art for her new single, the song indeed should hit close to home with it’s unique delivery in its message to “men.”

The song has nothing to do with Malcolm X. But I look at it as symbolism for shots being fired towards people who aren’t being like Malcolm X. Where are the persistent individuals? Where are our game changers? Where are the people who are seeking to not be a “Lookin Ass Nigga?” There are extremely few.

Nicki calls out the men who aren’t being anything but liars and deceitful little boys who lie to get ahead while overly using the word “nigga.” Those men mean nothing to her because rather lie about a lifestyle they wish they had, these men should be becoming what they say. Even drug lords live up to their word.

This song has hit many of black men’s hearts. I’ve seen multiple retaliations on Vine and YouTube towards women because of Nicki’s close-to-home lyrics. But honestly if we take the word “nigga” and use it as one of its more general meanings, an ignorant person, this song could be addressed to both sexes. Both men and women lie and aren’t consistent with the lifestyle they claim to live by.

Nicki is delivering this message in a way this generation will only hear it, aggressively through rap. She’s calling out someone’s bluff and it’s catching the attention of people who live the lyrics. (Cough Cough) MESSAGE!
