#GuestBlog: The Incredible Creations Art Meets The Runway (Recap) by Tony Bonez Sinatra

Last month, Saturday June 27, 2015 I attended one of Baltimore City’s small nit clothing line’s fashion shows as a stand in for Taylor “Doc” Walker, as she was unable to make an appearance as requested by the Incredible Creations.

The rain poured in the city of Baltimore while I found myself soaked on the bus stop, waiting for M.T.A bus to take me across town for the show. I was making my way to Eastern Ave to The SkyLoft Gallery to attend The Incredible Creation’s, Art Meets The Runway Fashion Show, an event hosted by Jerrell Gibbs and Milly VanderWood of the brand best known as Incredible Creations.

To be honest, I’m not a fashion expert. But I was thoughtful and was filling in for a friend due to her having to attend a Family Reunion. I mean what’s more important than family time, right?

I arrived at the designated time the event was scheduled to start, which was 7 pm but the show hadn’t started yet. I entered the Sky Loft Gallery to see chairs assembled in an orderly fashion throughout the venue creating a runway in the middle of the room. Hand painted portraits covered the walls .The DJ was posted in the back by a bar that was serving free hors d’oeuvres and drinks; mostly snacks that looked like something that could be found on Pinterest and a tasty punch mixed with ginger ale. The fact that the venue looked good, and the food was free, I could tell that I was going to enjoy this a lot more than the average events I usually attend in Baltimore. I usually attend Hip Hop events such as open mics.

I arrived to my seat, which had a free Incredible Creation sticker on it and a flier for the event. The DJ kept spinning a lot of current music, such as Future, Meek Mill, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. As I waited for the event to begin, more and more people started to show up. Everyone dressed so nicely, it almost made me feel out-of-place with my hoodie and varsity jacket on. But still, it didn’t matter to me because I was there for free. Haha.

Before the actual show was kicked off, we were blessed with a performance from a local Female MC from Baltimore named Jai. I had never heard of her before this night and she stuck out to me a lot more than the average female rapper. She told stories of her relationships in a way which was unfamiliar to me. I couldn’t tell if the song was about a guy or a girl and her vocabulary wasn’t too shabby. She kept it real without being the average Baltimore artist rapping about “life in the trap.” I absolutely hope to hear more from her in the future. Maybe at another Incredible Creation event?

The show had finally started with a collection of urban wear from The Incredible Creations and L.H.D.Y.

The clothing that showed off on the runway were very good looks for the summertime wear. I’m not too big on clothes, but they had a lot of male items I took interest in. There was a Natty Bo long sleeve shirt fitted for women that I really wanted to get for someone I knew. I felt like she might have looked nice in it if I got it for her. I always liked to see women in sporty fashion, and a lot of the outfits they showed for women had that early 90’s, but still modern-day, type of feel to it.

While in the male category, a stylish red polka dot tank top caught my eye. I wouldn’t mind sporting it myself this summer. It’s something about the design and the pocket on the top that made it stand out to me .

They showed out at least 15 different designs.

The show took intermission and at that time I had already been there 3 hours, and it was getting late. The rain from earlier had caused me to become sick. So you could say that may have been my own inflicted downfall from enjoying such a well put together event. I mean, I seriously sat in the pouring rain waiting for 2 buses and the show I sat soaked in the AC. I regret leaving so early but the show made me want to attend the next event these guys’ll throw. The change of scenery definitely made me want to start attending more venues outside of rap. When the Incredible Creations throw an event, I suggest you take a time to attend because they’re adding a bit more for people; they’re offering culture to the local Baltimore scene.

I’d just like to say, “Round of Applause for The Incredible Creations.”

Guest Post: Why love is hard to find?

Love is one of the hardest things to find because we constantly are looking for people to fit our criteria of a perfect man or a perfect woman. If we see nobody fits what we want, we lose hope and believe that love isn’t worth it. Believe it or not, sometimes you are hindering yourself from finding love because you are trying to find someone that doesn’t exist. So I’ve listed a few reasons why love is hard to find.

image

Six reasons why you probably can’t find love:

You are constantly judging everybody that looks your way

He doesn’t make enough money. Her forehead is too big. I heard that she slept with everybody around the block. He’s teeth are crooked.  Because we are people, we automatically judge people before we even get the chance to talk to them.  This makes finding love hard because we have this belief that a person won’t fit our criteria of “the perfect person,” and we automatically exclude them out.  It’s okay to judge a person, but constantly judging them and not even giving them a chance. That’s pretty harsh.

You are kind of selfish

Sometimes it’s okay to be selfish. We need to be selfish in order to get what we want. But if you’re looking for love or a relationship, being selfish is not an option. In a relationship, it’s very important that we give a percentage of ourselves to another. If you can’t give that, maybe now isn’t the time you should be in a relationship.

You don’t have time

You’re busy with work, school, getting your life together; you might not have time to find someone to be in a relationship with. It’s might be better if you stay single because relationships can be stressful.

You are always complaining that you will never find a man or woman that will love you

Please shut up and get over yourself for a minute. There are seven billion people in the world, you just happen to look in the same spots for that same type of girl/boy that has hurt your feelings multiple times. So either stop complaining, try to find someone different or stay single for a while and evaluate why you might be making these choices.

You don’t know how to keep your hands to yourself

Hmm…Playa, Playa.  As a player, you don’t want love. You don’t even want to be monogamous, with just one person. You’re just down for the physical stuff. Majority of young adults and people in their twenties think like this. They believe love is not really a priority right now and fooling is the only thing they want.

You are a firm believer of the phrase “love don’t live here anymore”

Love has left the building and you believe love will never come back, or it’s not worth it anymore. Many people go through this and are afraid to love again. This is perfect time to reevaluate your life, and focus on you. Focusing on you helps you know what’s missing in your life and it can also help you believe in love again.

YTube Vid of the Week: One of those days 2 – Candide Thovex

With all this snow landing in Baltimore, matter of fact -the entire east coast, this winter, finding a video like this week’s YTube Vid of the Week doesn’t even phase me as much as stumbling across a video of pure sunshine. But I’m still able to find something intriguing about what people enjoy doing in the snow, and I am absolutely amazed at Candide Thovex love for it.

Candide Thovex is a french professional skier and filmmaker, majorly known for his films recorded in first person view of his ski adventures. His videos of his experiences will leave anyone in awe. They make me want to find a ski resort where I can rip a course to shreds, though I can’t ski for the life of me.

One of Those Day 2 is the sequel to his previous skier video One of Those Days, which has the same concept but covers different landscapes and surroundings. Both videos are amazing due to the fact that I am unable to do any of what’s being done in them. Any average person will this guy props.

My favorite part of this film is the end. Candide went out like a boss! How does a person simply ski through a restaurant? He shows us he can just do those things. He’s the man.

WDAA Update: FLuX Releases Two Singles From 2015 Project

For a moment, I thought we were being faked out because it’s been a while since we heard from WDAA artist FLuX. But two weeks ago, while I went stalking the War Drumz Audio Art Soundcloud page, I found a repost from the soulful rapper’s personal Soundcloud. ‘Why not check to see what else there is?’ was what I thought, and then as I clicked on FluX’s link to his page, I found another little goodie.

The-Last-Tape-Cover

Two songs, “Rear view Mirror” and “The Sun is Blue,” were released on December 28, 2014 with the original cover art for FluX’s prospected project initially set to be released last month December 3rd. The project has been delayed until further notice. But it’s starting to slowly make its way to our ears as time surpasses.

Hallelujah *in my gospel choir voice*

LastTape

Each song gives me what y’all Beyonce fans call “life” because each sounds like they deserve radio play. It’s refreshing to hear something new and worthy. But of course, isn’t that how all good independent music feels?

YASSSSS!!

“The Sun is Blue” sounds like an old school hip-hop song from your late 90s and early 2000s, mostly because of the sample used in this track. It’s a song about frustrations and stress. I definitely could tell FLuX used this song to let off some steam. It’s relatable for people who feel a little overwhelmed with life’s many frustrations.

Now, ladies, if you take a listen to “Rear View Mirror,” you might think of the usual male coming to you using his best picking up line as he seeks to sweep you off your feet, ready to forget about all your responsibilities. This song definitely paints that picture for me. It also features Baltimore artist MikeCool. It’s sure to be a 2015 summer hit.

What do you think about these two tracks? Do you like it? Leave your comments below.

What Happened To Being All About Your Family On The Holidays?

Now that the holidays are over, I can finally ask this question? Is it just me or does the holidays suck now?! Haha

Fresh-Wreath-Deluxe-Red-Velvet-800-01

Christmas feels a little odd since I’ve gotten older. I don’t know if it’s because as a child I wasn’t consciously aware of everything going on around me or if it’s really changing.  I no longer get that merry feeling I once did as a child when the season approaches. This Christmas eve, I literally asked myself, “Am I suppose to feel odd about Christmas, especially the day before on Christmas Eve?”

Everything I do is different from when I use to feel the Christmas spirit. Everything I see is the same, but the feeling behind what I know as “christmassy” is different. Even as I speak to my friends, it feels like another average day. Only thing that’s different is the fact everyone’s giving people stuff, and it doesn’t feel like people want to do it. Christmas feels like a season people must participate in because we’ve been doing it for years. That’s not cool.

Christmas

The way I remember this holiday growing up is with pure tenderness, happiness, and love. My family spent every Christmas together. I woke up way before dawn Christmas day, excited to open presents from all the people I loved, with the people I loved, and every evening I saw more people I loved during our traditional Christmas dinner.

This Christmas was weird. I mean, I asked my mom and sister would we be having Christmas dinner this year, and nobody knew. I asked two days ahead of time, too. They couldn’t tell me. That’s was odd and unusual because we usually know at least that. So I assumed I wasn’t the only person feeling odd.

I even had to work Christmas day. That’s nothing new but it puts the icing on the cake when you realize your family’s doing things differently this year.

I came across an article while searching the web from blog site, On Being.org titled “Why I Don’t Do Christmas” by Krista Tippett. I found it while looking for people who might have similar thoughts about the holidays as I. Krista hits it right on the nose with her explanation for why she doesn’t like Christmas anymore.

Krista isn’t participating in the Christmas as we know it for many of reasons this year. To her, the holiday has become senseless. It’s all about money and reward. People are more selfish with thoughts of what they think they deserves during the season and not seeking solely to make someone happy. Days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday represents corporate businesses way of turning Christmas into an economic relief. The ole mighty dollar has become the country’s savior.

Christmas doesn’t seem so sweet and I believe it’s because the meaning is withering away from us. Krista isn’t far from figuring it out for her family.

What Christmas Means To Me

When I think of Christmas, I think of happiness, togetherness, genuine generosity, and love. These are all things I rarely see on a daily basis. That’s why Christmas means more to me than any other holiday. But if the day is suddenly losing its meaning, what’s the point?! Our point should be to celebrate the birth of the world’s savior, but without these principles it becomes really hard to create a better world to live in and its purpose slowly disappears.

As a record for myself and to the many of you who care about Christmas too, I wanted to remind everyone what each principle stands for during this season and why they’re important.

Happiness means contentment and joy. It’s contagious. Someone who is always happy can spark curiosity in someone who’s seeking to be happy. A happy person has to ability to uplift any atmosphere. In the world today, we’re lacking that high-spirited person who’ll promote hope, wonder, and change. Instead, the world rather enforce the harsh truth plainly. Hopefulness should embark in our children’s future but with all this “reality” going on, I fear that if I ask a child about what they’d picture life to be in five years, they’d take what they’d picture on television as a depiction of what will happen for them.

That’s really depressing to hear because I see a lot of ignore ish on TV. *cough cough” (Love & Hip-Hop, Bad Girls Club, and any of the Housewives of such and such).

Ask a child what they’re looking forward to for Christmas, and they’ll probably tell you a new cell phone or tablet. They’re not seeking to spent it with the people they love. The first thing they’re thinking about is their gifts. It’s more common to hear their mom or dad has to work Christmas day, too. Forget about togetherness. They need to chase the olé mighty dollars because they spent their last trying to show their love through buying materialistic things to keep their kids happy.

Togetherness induces warm affection and tenderness. It makes a person feel needed and wanted. Without togetherness on Christmas, the holiday seems much colder and lonely. That also is depressing.

As far as genuine generosity goes, I rarely see it at all. Holidays have turned into a person’s duty. People don’t seem like they’re doing things because they truly want to anymore. It’s like they partake in the festivities because it’s a habit or reward. It’s instinct to do something because someone else will be doing it, too. People buy gifts because others are buying gifts for them. People seek for self first and the holidays are far from being about yourself.

All these notions are connected and each sparks off the other. They all are connected to the final principle, love. The more people become selfish, the less we feel loved. Love is sacrifice. Love is patience. Love is kindness. Love is generous. Love is tenderness and happiness. It’s putting someone before yourself. It’s showing what your soul looks like. So without all these principles we lack a soul, compassion, and all things that are important in making Christmas really feel like the Jesus’ Birthday.

Love on Christmas

How can we bring love back?

We have to step away from our selfish needs first and choose to think about others. It can be as small as having a 15 minute conversation with someone we love. Those 15 minutes can be the beginning of sharing togetherness, which could possible spark of working to improve other principles. It starts small then gradually expands into something greater and better. We can work on it together and turn any holiday into a day that’s meant to show pure, genuine love.

Who’s down to do that?

Midnight’s Kiss by Jason Fotso (@Voice) / 2015 Cinderella

This was a lovely poem I found today scrolling my twitter timeline. I thought I’d share it for some of my daring readers who can’t resist the thought of sweet love during the holidays. Are you bringing in the new years with someone special?

image

This poem was written by a boy, who’s tweet caught my attention because of the amounts of reposts he received. He goes by the name of Jason Fotso and has a very simple twitter name, @Voice.

I wish I would have thought of a name that simple.

I’m unsure what the name of his viral poem might be so I named it based off what it’s about. It’s about kissing someone special at the struck of 12 midnight on New Years Day.

I came across his poem this morning and thought to myself how lovely. It was simple, sweet, and something that a person could memorize if they should recite it in their heads while kissing their loved tonight. Then I thought to myself, ‘why did I think about something so corny to do? Do people really do that or did I just think of a scene from a movie?’

Whatever…

This poem was also shared with this photograph of the 1950 Disney’s version of Cinderella to, I guess, mark relation to the line in the poem “Cinderella’s Ball, stops. Kiss her as the ball, drops.” The picture implies how the poem relates to Cinderella’s frisky night out with a prince and how she needed to be home by 12, too.

Well, look at that…

image

If you guys don’t already know, Disney’s releasing a new Cinderella film this year. Only this time, it’s not a cartoon. You know how they’re turning all of our Disney classics into movies with “real” people?  I thought they’d leave Cinderella alone since we’ve gotten multiple versions of the story since the cartoon came out! Anyway, this is the perfect time to share the trailer.

I have the suspicion they’ll make this into a film where the woman doesn’t end up with the man, like Disney films Frozen and Maleficent. What do you think? Leave your comments below.

YTube Vid of The Week: Psycho Kid Torches Christmas Tree

Everyone spends their Christmas a bit differently. Apparently, this guy spends all his holidays being ungrateful and a bit crazy each time he doesn’t get what he wants.

Today’s YTube Vid of The Week goes to McJuggerNuggets as he made me laugh so hard on Christmas day. I watched his brother Jesse, who’s often seen as ungrateful in most of their YouTube videos, torch a Christmas tree because he didn’t get a Wii U game console for the holiday. But his brother got an Xbox One. He was jealous much!

Last time I visited their channel, I watched Jess ruin Thanksgiving dinner because his dad burned his Xbox console. So as I watched Jesse this go around, I found that I was not in awe as I seen Jesse ruin another festive holiday for his family. After watching the video, I assumed Jesse’s a hard core gamer because he goes all out for these consoles. Man, all you can do is laugh once you see his reaction this Christmas.

What do you think should have been done about this situation? Do you think Jesse deserved what he got? Leave your comments below.
