#GuestBlog: The Incredible Creations Art Meets The Runway (Recap) by Tony Bonez Sinatra

Last month, Saturday June 27, 2015 I attended one of Baltimore City’s small nit clothing line’s fashion shows as a stand in for Taylor “Doc” Walker, as she was unable to make an appearance as requested by the Incredible Creations.

The rain poured in the city of Baltimore while I found myself soaked on the bus stop, waiting for M.T.A bus to take me across town for the show. I was making my way to Eastern Ave to The SkyLoft Gallery to attend The Incredible Creation’s, Art Meets The Runway Fashion Show, an event hosted by Jerrell Gibbs and Milly VanderWood of the brand best known as Incredible Creations.

To be honest, I’m not a fashion expert. But I was thoughtful and was filling in for a friend due to her having to attend a Family Reunion. I mean what’s more important than family time, right?

I arrived at the designated time the event was scheduled to start, which was 7 pm but the show hadn’t started yet. I entered the Sky Loft Gallery to see chairs assembled in an orderly fashion throughout the venue creating a runway in the middle of the room. Hand painted portraits covered the walls .The DJ was posted in the back by a bar that was serving free hors d’oeuvres and drinks; mostly snacks that looked like something that could be found on Pinterest and a tasty punch mixed with ginger ale. The fact that the venue looked good, and the food was free, I could tell that I was going to enjoy this a lot more than the average events I usually attend in Baltimore. I usually attend Hip Hop events such as open mics.

I arrived to my seat, which had a free Incredible Creation sticker on it and a flier for the event. The DJ kept spinning a lot of current music, such as Future, Meek Mill, Drake and Kendrick Lamar. As I waited for the event to begin, more and more people started to show up. Everyone dressed so nicely, it almost made me feel out-of-place with my hoodie and varsity jacket on. But still, it didn’t matter to me because I was there for free. Haha.

Before the actual show was kicked off, we were blessed with a performance from a local Female MC from Baltimore named Jai. I had never heard of her before this night and she stuck out to me a lot more than the average female rapper. She told stories of her relationships in a way which was unfamiliar to me. I couldn’t tell if the song was about a guy or a girl and her vocabulary wasn’t too shabby. She kept it real without being the average Baltimore artist rapping about “life in the trap.” I absolutely hope to hear more from her in the future. Maybe at another Incredible Creation event?

The show had finally started with a collection of urban wear from The Incredible Creations and L.H.D.Y.

The clothing that showed off on the runway were very good looks for the summertime wear. I’m not too big on clothes, but they had a lot of male items I took interest in. There was a Natty Bo long sleeve shirt fitted for women that I really wanted to get for someone I knew. I felt like she might have looked nice in it if I got it for her. I always liked to see women in sporty fashion, and a lot of the outfits they showed for women had that early 90’s, but still modern-day, type of feel to it.

While in the male category, a stylish red polka dot tank top caught my eye. I wouldn’t mind sporting it myself this summer. It’s something about the design and the pocket on the top that made it stand out to me .

They showed out at least 15 different designs.

The show took intermission and at that time I had already been there 3 hours, and it was getting late. The rain from earlier had caused me to become sick. So you could say that may have been my own inflicted downfall from enjoying such a well put together event. I mean, I seriously sat in the pouring rain waiting for 2 buses and the show I sat soaked in the AC. I regret leaving so early but the show made me want to attend the next event these guys’ll throw. The change of scenery definitely made me want to start attending more venues outside of rap. When the Incredible Creations throw an event, I suggest you take a time to attend because they’re adding a bit more for people; they’re offering culture to the local Baltimore scene.

I’d just like to say, “Round of Applause for The Incredible Creations.”

Doc Participates In The Boulevard of Chic’s 2nd Fashion Truck Rally

Today is a big day for me. I’ll be participating in a fashion show. Yay! This fashion show is in promotion of all the fashion trucks that’ll be at this weekend’s truck rally event for Boulevard of Chic.

image

This is the second Boulevard of Chic event I’m attending. The first event was held earlier during the spring. This one is different because it’s adding a new addition to its truck rally that didn’t take place at its first in April: the Boulevard of Chic’s fashion show.

BOV is all about supporting local DMV small businesses so they’ve picked a few local lines and some local bloggers to help kick off a good show and catch the attention of some of Baltimore’s savvy shoppers while they shop at the Rash Field in the Baltimore Inner Harbor this Saturday afternoon. I’m so excited to participate in another one of their events.

If you’d like to see a great line up of bloggers model some of the DMV most popular fashion trucks attire, come through and support the Boulevard of Chic 2nd Fashion Truck Rally. I hope to see you there!

Visit:
Rash Field in Baltimore Inner Harbor
(Near Key Highway)
12 pm to 7 pm

Live Forever with Modelz of Distinction’s Immortal Fashion Show

I’m on the roll with these fashion gigs. I have another to share with the viewers of Doc’s Castle Media. Did you hear about Towson University’s sponsored model troupe Modelz of Distinction? Well, they’re currently on fire. This weekend, they’ll be hosting another fashion event titled Immortal.

I’ve labeled this organization as “on fire” because word of mouth as reached me numerous of times regarding MOD. It’s about time that Doc’s Castle Media hop in on the excitement. I mean, just read the words from MOD’s very own secretary Kara Achilihu:

Our shows have grown with each year, reaching full capacity each time. Our shows not only include models ripping the runway, but feature an array of talent such as musicians, dance teams, poetry slams, raffles, prizes and more. MOD also participates in community outreach, performing community service and social events such as car washes, talent shows, cookouts, etc. We were most recently featured on WPB Radio twice, as well as a feature in The Towerlight, Towson University’s student newspaper.

They’ve been doing the damn thing. Lets give credit when it’s due.

Kara submitted a little snippet of last years show. I wish I attended. There’s so many beautiful people, both men and woman. Doesn’t it make you want to walk the stage, too?

So what are you doing this Saturday, May 10 at 7:15pm? If you’re doing the usual, stop right now and switch your plans. Indulge into something different by supporting this local event. Even if you’re going for the buffet, show your support by attending Modelz of Distintion’s Immortal fashion show. I bet you’ll feel fancy once it’s over.

Fun at Baltimore’s 1st Annual Fashion Truck Rally

I did something new last Saturday. If you live in Baltimore, sometimes you’d consider this city as a place where it’s pretty hard to find something new to do as recreation. I spend my summers looking for places to go. It’s really hard to find something fun to do without having to repeat the same activities over and over. But there’s warm weather on the rise so I should be able to do a lot more this season. This Saturday was officially the kick off to my season full of events, starting with the Boulevard of Chic Fashion Truck Rally.

2014-04-27 00.33.06

I had fun experiencing, for the first time, shopping from a fashion truck. It was indeed a moment of discovery. Imagine all the goodies a girl can buy from a truck that’s similar to your neighborhood’s infamous Ice Cream truck, except all your fashion treats can be found there. Yup, this is what I was apart of this weekend.

Check me and Doc’s Castle Media’s featured blogger Brianna of Rebellious Rebel flicking it up for the camera.

I met the owners of some of Baltimore’s local small businesses, exchanged some business cards, took some photos and bought some jewelry. It was cool. I hope that there will be other fashion truck rallies in the future. If there should be, I’m in there like swimwear! Check out my video of all the nice things I saw this weekend.

Did you like the song in the video? The track featured was done by Baltimore Artist Leon Dominick. Listen to and download his mixtape The KingDOM on Reverbnation.com.

Time to DAFT Up Your Clothing!

Today, I want to highlight another clothing line that was started in Baltimore, MD by two young entrepreneurs named Ben Danklin and Speedy Thraxxton. While in their sophomore year of 2009, they’ve created a line called DAFT!, which is an acronym that stands for Dangerously Adventurous Fly Trendsetters. Sounds cool to me!

I ran across DAFT’s Instagram page one day while speaking to my sister as she told me about these boys who went to her high school who started this clothing line. So of course for the sake of the Doc’s Castle Media readers, I had to find out who these boy were. They were kind enough to let me write about them.

05

Ben Danklin and Speedy Thraxxton and started off as a couple of teens who enjoyed doing things out of the norm, like skateboarding, and wearing different styles of fashion. They’re a little on edge, definitely adventurous, and never follow the in-crowd. This made them become trendsetters within their generation. So they established DAFT! and continued their movement with love, demand, and interest using their ideas and style.

03

DAFT! sent their mission statement over for me to share, also. Read it Below.

DAFT! Clothing founded in 2010, in Baltimore, MD was created by owners, Osirus Babb, Chanc Baylor and Isaiah Wilson. DAFT! Clothing is a street wear clothing brand that was started during their high school career with the intent of making some extra money.

Self-influenced by our own ambition and drive to become successful in not only our venture, but in our lives as well, DAFT! Clothing provides creative and appealing designs to consumers, so they can enjoy their creative and adventurous experiences through fashion. All the designs of DAFT! Clothing are based on the lives of the DAFT! Team. The team that assembles each design and project are like no other, our connection to our customers is something you can not find in any store.

06

These youngsters are determined to embed difference within their customers’ lives. They’re giving their consumers the ability to be creative and adventurous within themselves. What better can it be when someone is creating their own identity with the help of the DAFT! brand? Like Shante Franklin, also known as underground rapper Curren$y, said, “You only gonna get out of it, whatever you put into it….” If you put in the best to make something of yourself, you’ll only be the best. So everyone, let’s strive to be the best we can be.

Make sure you check out the DAFT! blog, follow DAFT! Clothing on Twitter at @DaftClothing and like DAFT! Clothing on Facebook.

If you know of another Fashion Forward that you’d like to share to Doc’s Castle Media, send me stuff. It could be the next highlight in the Doc’s Castle Media’s Fashion Forward column.

“Free Mind” for Free Minded People

What I admire about some of the people in Baltimore is the desire to strive and their want to help those to strive. I know so many people who want to get far. Indeed, those people come to Doc’s Castle Media for a little boost. But who am going to write about today is someone I reached out to that I want to support and I believe has a great idea. Have you thought about getting some new clothes from “Free Minds™ Clothing Co.? I bet you’ll consider it after you hear about the company.

Scenerymiddle

“Free Minds™ Clothing Co. was founded by Christopher Morton, on the belief that nothing is impossible. Free Minds wasn’t created by an established clothing designer, but an everyday hard-working young adult with huge ambitions.” And according to this young CEO, his company strives to achieve these five goals:

  • Encourage individuals to be who they truly are, despite what others may think, or what is popular at the time.
  • Encourage individuals to reach their dreams.
  • Promote an educated and positive environment among their supporters, as they attempt to grow our support base.
  • Provide a personal connection with each of their supporters.
  • Be involved with people and events that aspire to create a better society.
  • And above all, Free Minds strives to offer people reasons to purchase their items and support them.

IMG_3029RS

Although Free Minds™ Clothing Co. plans to create good quality by thinking about their supporters, providing fashionable clothing and being the next trend is not their priority. Christopher Morton wants more than that. Free Minds™ Clothing Co. should be remembered. For Christopher, what’s “hot” is always subject to change; whereas, what’s meaningful tends to last longer.

The people at Free Minds™ Clothing Co. believe it’s always just a matter of time before something great makes a breakthrough, and they plan to be something great. I agree with them. Free Minds™ Clothing Co. and Doc’s Castle Media will be great someday.

You can buy attire from Free Minds™ Clothing Co. today. Just make sure you order your purchase to support once you’ve finish reading this blog. Also, “like” Free Minds™ Clothing Co. on Facebook at Free Minds Clothing Co. and “follow” them on Twitter at @FREE_MiNDS.
