2013 Goals? Man, y’all on the same ish from last year!

New Year, New Me!! Hahaha…

Well in Doc’s case, I can say this is true. Every year I accomplish at least 5 out of 10 of my goals for the new year. That’s better than nothing. I dislike when people bash others who have a greater mindset for the next year. When people say in the upcoming year they’re going about things differently, applaud them for the effort. It encourages them to keep it up. But if your friends are bashing you for what you want to do in 2013, it might be because they didn’t meet their goals in 2012 or any years prior to it. Lets not be too negative before we even hit 2013.

2013 Goals

Like I said, I normally complete a few goals from my list I make each year. That’s usually because I make realistic goals and I often remind myself of those goals each time I walk out of my bedroom because I have them posted on the wall next to the bedroom door. I see them everyday. I have no excuse to say I don’t remember them so I have to make them happen.

Today is the first of the year, and I’m pretty sure many of you have some goals in mind to help you be successful in the year 2013. But I want to help you a little more. Many people have some issue creating goals. I decided to do some research on the best ways to make goals for yourself, and came across an article on LiveStrong.com with 5 steps to helping you make great goals. I’m going to share that method with you, then I’m going to tell you mine. Here are the 5 steps following the SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Rewarding and Time-based) method explained on their site:

  1. Create measurable and realistic goals. Commit to them!
  2. Write them down and find a way for you to measure your progress.
  3. Know the difference between a goal and a dream. (Think of goals and not outcomes.)
  4. Look for ways to get feedback.
  5. Do not burn yourself out trying to complete these tasks.

All five of these steps are great! For anyone who is successful, they follow the same format but might have slight differences about going and accomplishing their goals. For me, I cannot write a few goals down and that be the end of it. I have to post my goals everywhere I know I’m going to see it so that I may be reminded of what I want to do. I have a vision board, which is a dry-erase board that I hang in my room that’s used specifically for writing my goals. I also have a planner that I look in everyday. I have to-do lists for each day in my phone with reminders set to alarm me of what I need to do at a specific time. My goal methods are pretty strict but I like it because at the end of each year I feel like I’ve changed my life.

If you’re the type of person who thinks doing any of the above methods takes too much of your time, then you’re not serious about accomplishing goals in the first place. You have to work to get where you want to be. But remember it’s not work if you’re doing what you enjoy. So create goals that will ultimately make you happy in the long run so you won’t feel like you’re working.

I hope I helped you. If not, well, I tried. Good luck with all your 2013 resolutions and goals!
